“The IBA continues to adhere to the principles of fair competition in all our events. We strongly condemn the inconsistencies in the eligibility of boxing for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. We reiterate that Iman Khelif and Lin Yuting did not meet the established criteria to participate in the women’s category of our competition.
“We do not understand why any organisation would expose a boxer to the risk of serious injury. The primary duty of a ring judge is to ensure the safety of the athlete. How is this possible if the boxers do not meet the eligibility criteria? We support the right of our athletes to compete on an equal footing and will protect their interests in all situations. Their hopes and dreams should not be dashed by organisations that fail to take responsibility in difficult situations,” the IBA said in a statement.
Let us recall that in the 1/8 finals Iman Khelif met the Italian athlete Angela Carini. The fight was stopped 46 seconds after it started when Carini refused to continue and left the ring in tears. The victory was awarded to Iman Khelif.
