Olympic champion Nikita Katsalapov said that Russian figure skaters managed to defend their honor in the case of the redistribution of medals at the team tournament of the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
On Friday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced that it had rejected the Canadian side’s appeal against the results of the figure skating team competition at the 2022 Olympic Games. The Russian athletes retained their bronze medals.
— The trial lasted 2.5 years. It was long, tedious and difficult. But we defended our honor in this battle. Yes, bronze, but with a golden tint!
Of course, the world, or rather that adequate part of the world that looks at the situation objectively, understands figure skating and sports and follows the development of events, knows and understands very well who the Olympic champions really are.
But, considering everything that happened, it is also a victory that is important for all of us. Thank you to everyone who participated! Thank you very much to our team who stuck together until the end.
Of course, there are more questions than answers, my soul is restless and it is unlikely that there will ever be peace about it, but it has become a little easier that it is finally over.
I would just like to remind everyone: no matter what happens, we never give up and will not give up, no matter how much someone wants it. We will prove with achievements, truth, words and unity that Russia is moving forward and our athletes are among the strongest in the world! — Katsalapov wrote on the Telegram channel.
The Russian team won the team tournament, but after Kamila Valieva was disqualified for an anti-doping rule violation, the results of the competition were revised. The International Skating Union (ISU), after canceling Valieva’s results, placed the American team in first place, the Japanese team in second place, and the Russian team was supposed to receive bronze. Team Canada, which placed fourth, also claimed third place by filing an appeal with CAS against the ISU decision.
Earlier it was reported that the medal ceremony, which will be attended by Americans and Japanese, will take place on August 7 in Paris.
