French Leon Marchand won gold at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in the 200-meter individual medley.
In the final swim, Marchand set an Olympic record with a time of 1 minute 54.06 seconds. The record previously belonged to American Michael Phelps (1:54.23), set at the 2008 Games in Beijing.
Silver went to Britain’s Duncan Scott (+1.25), bronze to China’s Wang Shun (+1.94).
For Marchand, 22, this victory was the fourth at the Olympic Games on home soil. Previously, the athlete became the best in the 200-meter butterfly and breaststroke, as well as the 400-meter individual medley.
The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
