Ugandan Cheptegei Wins 2024 10,000m Gold With New Olympic Record

Silver went to Aregawi from Ethiopia, bronze to American Fischer

Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei won a gold medal Olympic Games 2024 in running on 10000 meters.

Cheptegei completed the distance in 26:43.14, which is a new Olympic record. Joshua improved the result of Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele (27:01.17) by 18 seconds. Interestingly, 13 athletes ran under 27 minutes in the final race. The world record for this distance also belongs to Cheptegei – 26:11.00.

This is the third Olympic medal in Cheptegei’s career. In Tokyo, Joshua became the champion in the 5,000 meters and the silver medalist in the 10,000 meters.

Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi won silver at the 2024 Olympics, while American Grant Fisher won bronze.
