Russian figure skater Alexander Galliamov reacted to the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to reject the Canadian side’s appeal against the results of the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
In January, the International Skating Union (ISU) redistributed the tournament’s medals after Russia’s Kamila Valieva was disqualified for an anti-doping rule violation. The ISU annulled Valieva’s results and moved the Russian team from first to third place. The U.S. team took first place and Japan took second. Team Canada, which placed fourth, also claimed third place by appealing the ISU decision to CAS. On Friday, CAS announced that arbitrators had rejected the Canadian side’s appeal and awarded the Russian skaters the bronze medal.
Canadian 2018 Olympic champion Megan Duhamel has previously criticized Russian athletes and also said the Canadian team should receive bronze at the awards ceremony, which will take place on August 7 in Paris.
— Megan, can I send you some chocolate for peace of mind? — Gallyamov wrote on the Telegram channel.
Valieva, Mark Kondratyuk, Anastasia Mishina and Gallyamov, Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov performed for the Russian team in Beijing.
