Athletistic/OI-2024. International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach has commented on whether the hype surrounding boxing at the Paris Olympics was a deliberate campaign to discredit Russia.

The IOC had previously approved the participation of Algerian athlete Iman Khelif and Taiwanese Lin Yuting in the 2024 Games, despite the fact that in 2023 these athletes failed a testosterone test and were suspended from the world boxing championship organized by the International Boxing Association (IBA) under the leadership of Russian Umar Kremlev.

“I am not sure, but we hear a lot from the Russian side, including from the international federation, whose license we revoked for several reasons. They waged a campaign to discredit France, the Olympic Games and the IOC before the start of the Olympic Games. They made many statements that I will not repeat. If you trust the information they provide, read their comments and draw your own conclusions,” Bach told RIA Novosti.

  • Bach said the IOC intends to keep boxing on the Olympic programme in 2028.
