Silver medalist at the 2012 World Ladies Single Skating Championships Alena Leonova told that she was genuinely happy for the Russian figure skaters, who retained bronze in the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
On Friday, CAS announced that it had rejected the Canadian side’s appeal against the results of the figure skating team competition at the 2022 Olympic Games. The Russian athletes retained their bronze medals.
– Great joy, immense. I am sincerely happy for the guys that they have at least bronze medals at the Olympics. In particular, I am very happy for Mark Kondratyuk, who really showed himself very well in the team tournament and won a medal thanks to his work. Apparently, everything is as it should be. I hope that there will be no more moments when we can be belittled or pushed aside somewhere. I would like to close this story already. The next question is when the medals will be returned, under what circumstances and where. Apparently, they will send it by Russian post (laughs), Leonova told .
The Russian team won the team tournament, but after Kamila Valieva was disqualified for an anti-doping rule violation, the results of the competition were revised. The International Skating Union (ISU), after canceling Valieva’s results, placed the American team in first place, the Japanese team in second place, and the Russian team was supposed to receive bronze. Team Canada, which placed fourth, also claimed third place by filing an appeal with CAS against the ISU decision.
As a result, the American team took first place in the tournament with 65 points, the Japanese team (63) took second place, and the Russian team (54) took third place. Valieva, Mark Kondratyuk, Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov, Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov performed for the Russian team in Beijing.
Earlier it was reported that the medal ceremony, which will be attended by Americans and Japanese, will take place on August 7 in Paris.
