It was previously announced that the All-Russian Swimming Federation (RSF) would represent Chikunova as the winner of the 2024 Olympic Games in its competitions.
“Only seconds matter to me. My main achievement is the official world record and my main goal is to improve my results. That’s all I think about when I go to the start,” Chikunova said in a commentary on Match TV, explaining her attitude to official announcements.
In the final of the Russian Cup, Chikunova showed results superior to those with which Tatyana Smith (South Africa) and Kate Douglass (USA) won the 100 and 200 meters breaststroke at the 2024 Olympic Games.
