Ledecky on repeating Latynina’s record: “It’s an honor. But I don’t think too much about such things, especially during competitions.”

American swimmer Katie Ledecky who equaled the number of Olympic gold medals with the Soviet gymnast Larissa Latynina said that during tournaments she does not think about such achievements.

Ledecky won the 800m freestyle at the Paris Olympics on Saturday. The 27-year-old American now has nine gold medals, four silver and one bronze at the Games.

— Speaking of historical moments, today you have equaled the number of medals with the most decorated athlete in history. This record is 60 years old, it belongs to Larisa Latynina! Who were your role models in women’s sports before you?

“I don’t think about such things too much, especially during competitions. There have been so many athletes over the years, next to whom I couldn’t even imagine myself at the current level. “It’s an honour,” a correspondent reports, quoting Ledecky.

The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
