Three-time Olympic champion Fraser-Pryce has withdrawn from the 100 metres at the 2024 Olympics due to injury, the head of delegation said.

Triple Olympic champion Shelley-Ann Fraser-Price missed his Olympic 100m semi-final on Saturday due to an injury sustained during warm-up, Jamaican national team head of delegation Ian Kelly announced.

Fraser-Pryce was scheduled to run in the second heat but was listed as a “non-starter” in the official records. Later, footage emerged on social media of the 37-year-old and members of the Jamaican team arguing with officials who would not allow their car to enter.

Reports emerged on the IOC website that the athlete had withdrawn from the competition due to injury. Kelly, in an interview with Reuters, confirmed that there had indeed been a delay in entry, but that Fraser-Pryce’s absence was due to injury.

“She was allowed to go out onto the warm-up track, but through a different gate. It is not true that she was not allowed to enter the stadium. Unfortunately, she was unable to compete due to an injury sustained during the final warm-up,” Kelly was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Julienne Alfred of Saint Lucia won the 100 meters at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The athlete won with a score of 10.72 seconds. Alfred won the first Olympic medal in Saint Lucia’s history.

Fraser-Pryce announced in February that she would retire from the sport after the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The Olympic Games in the French capital will end on August 11.
