Pogorelko: I felt good during the season and training. But unfortunately, something didn’t work out

Tomorrow, the Ukrainian will compete in additional races for a place in the semi-finals of the 2024 Olympic Games in the 400m race

Ukrainian track and field athlete Alexander Pogorelko commented on the results of the preliminary round Olympic Games 2024 V 400m runas a result of which he did not qualify directly for the semi-finals of the competition.

“I felt fine. I tried not to think about the qualification. I rested, recovered, went to warm up. Fortunately, nothing hurt, everything was fine. I wanted to run better in the qualification, but I couldn’t maintain the form I had at the beginning of the season.”

“Why couldn’t I maintain my form? I don’t know. I felt good during the season and during training. But unfortunately, something didn’t work out. A consolation run? I don’t know how much you can prepare, because I gave it my all in the qualification, and then I have to run on Monday. We’ll see how I recover. But this is both good and bad. Good – there will be another chance to fight for the final, and bad, because before you could qualify based on time, but now they’ve removed that and installed this system.”

Pogorelko finished sixth in his race with a result of 45.71, while only three of the leaders of his race received tickets to the semi-finals.

Tomorrow, August 5, Pogorelko will take part in additional races, where he will try to fight for a place in the semi-finals.
