Yaroslava brought Ukraine gold at the 2024 Olympic Games
Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslav Maguchikh shared her emotions after winning the gold medal in high jump on Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.
“I won a gold medal for our country in the fight. I am very happy. I want to thank the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the military, the volunteers. This medal is for the whole country.”
“Was I nervous? Actually, I was very well-disposed. Of course, the Olympic Games are held every four years. But I tried not to think about it, because after all, it is a sports festival. I had such motivation, I arrived as the season leader with a world record. This gave me motivation. Unfortunately, I couldn’t jump higher, but this is a competition, it’s necessary. We’ll keep working, there is something to work on.”
In today’s final, Maguchikh cleared 2.00 m. Silver went to Australian Nicola Olislagers, who cleared the same 2.00 m, but on her third attempt. The bronze medal was shared by Ukrainian Iryna Gerashchenko and Australian Eleanor Patterson – both cleared 1.95 m, but failed to clear 1.98 m on their third attempt.
Let us recall that on July 7, Maguchikh broke the world record for high jump, which had stood since 1987 – Yaroslava cleared a height of 2.10 m at the Diamond League stage in Paris.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will end on August 11. The competition will feature 329 sets of medals in 32 sports.
