Incredible 2024 Olympics Numbers: More Than Half of the World’s Population Will Watch the 2024 Olympics

According to available data, broadcast and digital broadcasting figures are breaking all records, and traffic from social networks has also increased

The president International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach spoke about record broadcast figures and shared a bold forecast regarding the population coverage of the events taking place in Paris Olympic Games 2024.

“Broadcast and digital numbers are through the roof. In the U.S., NBC’s Peacock streaming platform has already surpassed the combined totals of Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 in just three days of the games. Warner Brothers Discovery, the rights holder in Europe, has surpassed the combined total of unique streaming viewers for Tokyo in the first two days of the games alone.”

According to current data, the average total audience for the six-day Olympics in the United States was 33.0 million viewers in prime time (2-5 p.m. ET) and prime time (8-11 p.m. ET), up 76% from Tokyo’s 18.8 million.

The IOC President also drew attention to the growing traffic figures from official social networks:

“To date, there have been over 8.5 billion interactions, a 40% increase over the entire Tokyo 2020 period. We can say with great confidence that we are on track to have over half of the world’s population watching the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.”

The 2024 Olympic Games officially started on July 26. For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, the Opening Ceremony was held outside the Olympic stadium. The Ukrainian team was represented at the opening of the 2024 Olympics by 58 members of the delegation. As previously announced, the flag bearers of our team were tennis player Elina Svitolina and swimmer Mykhailo Romanchuk.

The official broadcast of the ceremony in France on the France 2 channel was watched by 23.3 million viewers, with a share of 83.1%, making it the best non-football broadcast in the country’s history.

In the United States, the official television audience for the 2024 Opening Ceremony was 28.6 million, the highest for an Olympic Games in 12 years. In Germany, 10.1 million watched the event, the best result for the Olympics since 2004. In the UK, 7.9 million viewers watched the broadcast of the ceremony, the best result since 2012.

The 2024 Games set a record even before they started — they became the most attended in history. On July 11, it became known that 8.6 million tickets (86% of all that went on sale) for the competitions and official opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics had been sold. Thus, the result of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, when 8.3 million tickets were sold, was beaten.

According to official figures, 10,500 athletes are taking part in the 2024 Olympics, competing for 329 sets of medals in 32 sports. The Games are covered by 20,000 accredited journalists, and the organizers are assisted by 45,000 volunteers.

Yesterday, August 3, the women’s sabre fencing team brought Ukraine its third medal at the current Games in Paris. Earlier Olga Harlan won a bronze medal in sabre fencing. Sergey Kulish won silver in the 50-meter air rifle three-position event. Another medal for Ukraine was guaranteed by a boxer Alexander Khizhnyak.
