Yuri Skobov, Olympic cross-country skiing champion in Sapporo in 1972, has died at the age of 75, the press service of the Kirov region government reported.
Skobov won gold at the Games in the relay. He also won silver at the World Relay Championship and four victories at the USSR Championship.

Yuri Georgievich was the pride of the national ski school. He made a huge contribution to the development of sports in the Soviet Union and Russia. Until the last days of his life, he remained in service, helped sports coaches, young athletes and wholeheartedly supported the development of sports infrastructure in his small homeland, in the Omutninsky district. The Kirov region government expresses condolences to the family and friends of Yuri Georgievich Skobov. Kirov region governor Alexander Sokolov also sent a telegram of condolences to Yuri Skobov’s relatives, the message said.
Farewell to Skobov will take place on August 7 at 11:00 at the Metallurg Palace of Culture in the city of Omutninsk.
