Athletistic/Others. Irina Rodnina, a three-time Olympic figure skating champion and State Duma deputy, says the upcoming campaign in the United States aimed at discrediting Russian athletes in figure skating, rhythmic gymnastics and synchronized swimming is not original. According to her, it is simply an attempt to rehash an old topic, since Russian athletes have not participated in international competitions for two years.

Earlier it became known that the United States is planning a new campaign aimed at discrediting Russian sports. The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service suggests that the United States wants to discredit sports in which Russian athletes traditionally achieve good results: rhythmic gymnastics, synchronized swimming and figure skating.

“They have a good selection and a good sense of taste. But if our intelligence services already have such information, it means that the United States is not doing a very good job. There is nothing new in this, they are just trying to revive old disputes. It has been two years since we last participated in international competitions and we have no new results. So there is nothing to complain about. The problem is that they are trying to denigrate great sports known for their beauty and grace. They would be better off focusing on their athletes. We say that beauty will save the world, but the Americans seem to be jealous that they cannot stand out in sports such as rhythmic gymnastics, figure skating and synchronized swimming,” Rodnina noted in an interview with RIA Novosti.
