Leonova – on the bronze medal of Russian figure skaters at the team tournament of the 2022 Games: “I would like to consider this a small victory”

2012 World Championship silver medalist Alena Leonova believes that the bronze medals at the team tournament of the 2022 Beijing Olympics can be called a “small victory” for Russian figure skaters.

On Friday, CAS announced that it had rejected the Canadian side’s appeal against the results of the figure skating team competition at the 2022 Olympic Games. The Russian athletes retained their bronze medals.

— Yes, it turns out that the team was deprived of gold, but the guys at least got bronze medals. In my opinion, everything could have ended even worse; in theory, these medals could have gone to the Canadian team. Yes, after losing gold, the other medals are no longer so pleasing, but at least so. I am happy for the guys. I would like to consider this a small victory, “Leonova was quoted as saying by RB Sport.

The Russian team won the team tournament, but after Kamila Valieva was disqualified for an anti-doping rule violation, the results of the competition were revised. The International Skating Union (ISU), after canceling Valieva’s results, placed the American team in first place, the Japanese team in second place, and the Russian team was supposed to receive bronze. Team Canada, which placed fourth, also claimed third place by filing an appeal with CAS against the ISU decision.

As a result, the American team took first place in the tournament with 65 points, the Japanese team (63) took second place, and the Russian team (54) took third place. Valieva, Mark Kondratyuk, Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov, Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov performed for the Russian team in Beijing.

Earlier it was reported that the medal ceremony, which will be attended by Americans and Japanese, will take place on August 7 in Paris.
