Duplantis celebrated world record and Olympic victory by parodying Turkish sniper

Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis parodied the Turkish shooter who gained popularity on social media Yusuf Dikech after winning the Paris Olympics.

Duplantis won the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics on Monday with a world record of 6.25 meters. The Swede updated his own feat (6.24 meters). American Sam Kendricks came in second with a score of 5.95 meters; the leading trio was completed by Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis (5.90 m).

After the contest ended, Duplantis reached out and made a gun shape with his fingers, copying Dikech’s pose that went viral.

Dikech, 51, and Sevval Tarkhan won silver at the Games in the 10-meter air pistol shooting in the mixed duet competition. Dikech, unlike his rivals, did not use special glasses to avoid glare or noise-canceling headphones. A photo of Dikech with his hand in his pocket gained popularity on social media, with users comparing him to characters from video games and movies.

The 2024 Olympics will end on August 11.
