Three-time Olympic champion swimmer Adam Peaty said it had discovered worms in food provided to athletes at the Paris Olympics.
At the 2024 Games, Peaty won a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke.
“Nutrition is not good enough for the level of performance expected of athletes. We have to give it our all. Tokyo Olympics – the food was amazing, Rio de Janeiro Olympics – the food was amazing. But this time there were not enough protein options, long lines, 30 minutes of waiting to eat because there was no queuing system.
Athletes are simply punished in the name of sustainability. I want to eat meat, I need meat for shows, and that’s what I eat at home, so why should I change anything? I like fish, but people find worms in it. We watch the best of the best in the world, but we don’t feed them the best. I just want people to be better at their tasks and their work. And I think athletes are the best representatives of that point of view,” the British swimmer told Inews.
Previously, the quality of food in the Olympic Village had been criticised by players of the German national field hockey team and multiple Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles of the United States.
