Khudaiberdieva explained why she considers sexualization one of the main problems in figure skating

Russian figure skater Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva who performs in ice dancing with Egor Bazin, recounted in her column on how, even in junior skating, she encountered the problem of the sexualization of performances.

Khudaiberdieva and Bazin are the champions of Russia in the 2022/23 season. Since March 2023, they have been training in the group of Alexander Zhulin, where they left coach Denis Samokhin. The duo won silver medals at the Russian Championship and the Spartakiad of the strongest.

“I truly believe that sexualization is a problem.” For example, when I was 13, I competed with a partner who was already 18. We had already qualified as juniors and had to skate in the same style as our opponents. Some girls, like me, were in their early teens, while others were already about to graduate from college. Should we explain the confusion of the coaches when we started choreographing this dance? Was it possible to do something less blatant? Maybe yes. I remember now that it was very strange for me. I had just started my dancing career and realized that the competition was huge, I had no experience and there was only one chance to get into the national team. Therefore, I was very afraid to show my fear of trying anything, and at any suggestion of choreography, without flinching a single muscle in my face, I said: “Great, great, let’s do it right,” Khudaiberdieva wrote.
