Felfner: I’m sick of this result, I’ve been throwing 81 meters all season

Ukrainian fails to reach javelin throw final at 2024 Olympics

Ukrainian javelin thrower Arthur Felfner commented on his performance at Olympic Games 2024where he failed to reach the finals of the competition.

“Are you upset? A little bit. Honestly, I’m sick and tired of this 81m result, I’ve been throwing this 81m all season. Out of seven starts, maybe five at 81m. I was hoping to break through in the qualification, but I couldn’t quite cope with myself. I was hoping that this attempt that I wanted would fail, but unfortunately, it was only 81m.”

“Of course, I understood that I needed to throw according to my personal best. Because the results were very strong. I thought like this: four or five people will meet the qualifying standards of 84 meters, but a lot of people took it. These are the Olympic Games.”

“In the first attempt I didn’t have enough run-up, I was very close to the line and threw away from myself, didn’t hit it at all. In the second attempt I released it on the equipment, it flew to 81.80 m. I wanted to run the third, speed is my thing. I really wanted to run, I ran, but my left leg went a little because I pulled my shoulders forward.

“What was going on in my soul before the attempts? I don’t even know. That I’ll succeed, I can do everything, I’ll just do it like I did in training. Because there were good attempts in training before this. I accelerated as much as I could, but I didn’t quite pull it off.”

“As they say, the Olympics are something magical, and that’s true. But I was thinking that these were regular competitions like the World or European Championships. I didn’t pay attention to the fact that it was the Olympics. Everything was great and my mood was great. But I can’t get over this 81m barrier. I don’t know why. I’ll analyze it with my coach, there will be other starts, I’ll try to throw there.”

Felfner, 20, is a debutant at the Games. He showed his best result (81.84 m) in his second qualifying attempt. Artur took 15th place and did not make it into the top 12 that will compete in the final.

The 2024 Summer Olympics will end on August 11. The competitions will feature 329 sets of awards in 32 sports. Ukraine is represented in Paris by 140 athletes in 23 sports – this is the smallest representation of the blue and yellow during the Olympics.
