The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that pole vaulter Eleni-Claudia Polak is the Greek athlete who tested positive for doping.
Earlier on Tuesday, the press office of the Greek National Olympic Committee (NOC) announced that it had received information from the Greek Anti-Doping Agency about a positive doping test on an unnamed athlete participating in the Games in the French capital. A temporary suspension was imposed on the athlete and the NOC demanded that he leave the Olympic Village.
— Eleni-Claudia Polak has been provisionally suspended (due to a positive doping test) and disqualified from the women’s pole vault. The qualification results for the women’s pole vault have been revised accordingly and the athlete has been disqualified pursuant to Anti-Doping Rule 10.1, the IOC statement said.
Polak had previously reported that a banned substance had been detected in his urine sample, but its concentration was below the permitted limit. The 28-year-old failed to reach the final of the competition, which was postponed to August 7.
The Paris Olympics take place from July 26 to August 11.
