“The water quality of the Seine is considered very good after tests carried out on the evening of August 5. Therefore, the next swim will take place as planned,” said Deschamps.
On August 6, Agence France-Presse reported that swimmers’ training in the Seine ahead of the Olympic open water competitions had been cancelled due to heavy pollution in the river.
“The International Federation decided to cancel the training, but this was done before receiving the results of the water analysis. Three out of four independent tests gave very good results, one was satisfactory,” noted Deschamps.
Open water swimming competitions are scheduled for August 8 and 9. The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
