The reigning Olympic high jump champion was injured during qualifying for the Paris Games

Olympic high jump champion in Tokyo Mutaz Barshim Qatar’s player was injured during qualifying events for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

During the first attempt to reach a height of 2.27 meters, Barshim limped during the run-up and did not jump. He held his left leg. The first to approach him was the Italian Gianmarco Tamberi, with whom the Qatari shared gold at the Tokyo Olympics. Barshim was then examined by medical staff.

In the second attempt, the Qatari reached the indicated height. He qualified for the final from third place. Tamberi also reached the final of the competition, posting the sixth result. A few days before the start of the Olympic competition, he was admitted to hospital with suspected kidney stones.

2023 World Championship silver medalist Juwon Harrison of the United States was not among the 12 athletes who qualified for the Olympic final.

High jumpers will compete for medals on August 10. The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
