The Olympic medalist has been formally charged with the involuntary manslaughter of his wife and faces up to 15 years in prison.

Double Olympic cycling medallist Roan Dennis of Australia has been charged with the manslaughter of his wife Melissa Hoskins, reports Cycling news .

Police allege that in December last year Dennis, while driving a car, ran over world track cycling champion Hoskins outside her home. The woman was taken to Adelaide Hospital but died from her injuries. Dennis was arrested in January and the 34-year-old cyclist was later released on bail to care for his two minor children.

Dennis appeared in court on Tuesday to be formally charged but did not make a statement. The Australian faces up to 15 years in prison. The next court date is October 30.

Dennis is an Olympic silver and bronze medalist.
