Honored Coach of the USSR Tatiana Tarasova told that the Russian figure skating team should be rewarded with bronze medals in the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
According to RIA Novosti, Russian figure skaters have asked CAS to cancel the redistributed medal ceremony of the 2022 Olympics without their participation. Later, Russian figure skater Alexander Gallyamov told that this was the first time he had heard of the Russian national team’s request to cancel the awards ceremony of the American and Japanese national teams scheduled for Wednesday in Paris.
“We were not invited to the ceremony, but we had to be there.” Silver is awarded, but not bronze. So what? We have bronze medals and we should be rewarded. That’s all,” Tarasova told .
The Russian team won the team tournament at the Beijing Olympics, but after figure skater Kamila Valieva was disqualified for an anti-doping rule violation, the results of the competition were revised. The International Skating Union (ISU), after canceling Valieva’s results, placed the American team in first place, the Japanese team in second place, and the Russian team was supposed to receive bronze. Team Canada, which placed fourth, also claimed third place by filing an appeal with CAS against the ISU decision.
Last week, CAS announced that it had rejected the Canadian side’s appeal against the results of the figure skating team competition at the 2022 Olympic Games. The Russian athletes retained their bronze medals.
As a result, the American team took first place in the tournament with 65 points, the Japanese team (63) took second place, and the Russian team (54) took third place. Valieva, Mark Kondratyuk, Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov, Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov performed for the Russian team in Beijing.
