Figure skater Gallyamov said it was the first time he had heard of an appeal to CAS demanding the cancellation of the awards ceremony for the American and Japanese teams.

Russian figure skater Alexander Galliamov told that this is the first time he has heard of the Russian national team’s request to cancel the gold and silver medal ceremony for the U.S. and Japanese teams following the team tournament at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, scheduled for Wednesday in Paris.

Earlier, the International Skating Union (ISU) redistributed the tournament’s medals after Russia’s Kamila Valieva was disqualified for an anti-doping rule violation. The ISU annulled Valieva’s results and moved the Russian team from first to third place. The U.S. team took first place and Japan took second. Team Canada, which placed fourth, also claimed third place by appealing the ISU decision to CAS. Last week, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced that the arbitrators had rejected the Canadian side’s appeal and awarded the Russian skaters the bronze medal.

According to RIA Novosti Sport, the Russian figure skating team has applied to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to request the cancellation of the award ceremony of the American and Japanese teams without the participation of the Russians.

— Honestly, I haven’t heard anything about it, so I can’t say anything. We train morning and afternoon, we don’t have time to follow the news closely. I barely have time, we still have something to worry about.

— So you didn’t apply to CAS personally?

“Basically, it’s the first time I’ve heard it,” Gallyamov told .

Valieva, Mark Kondratyuk, Anastasia Mishina and Gallyamov, Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov performed for the Russian team in Beijing.

The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday in Paris, starting at 6:00 p.m. Moscow time.
