American figure skater Knierim on winning medals for 2022 Olympic team tournament: ‘It’s a story that will teach you to fight for what you believe in’

American figure skater Alexa Knierim, who competes in pairs, shared her thoughts on the medal ceremony for the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games.

The ceremony with the participation of the American and Japanese teams took place on Wednesday at the Parc des Champions in Paris. The Russian team won the team tournament of the Games, but after the disqualification of Kamila Valieva for an anti-doping rule violation, the results of the competition were revised. The International Skating Union (ISU) placed the American team in first place, the Japanese team in second place, and the Russian team was supposed to receive bronze, it did not participate in the awards ceremony;

— Did you know that the Russian side tried to contest today’s ceremony?

“We focused entirely on ourselves.

— Isn’t it a shame there’s no podium today?

“I’m happy with everything that happened.” It was perfect. It’s good. I think people understand the situation. It may not have been a perfect story – it could have happened in 2022. But it’s a story that teaches sportsmanship and fighting for what you believe in.

— Doesn’t it bother you that all this happened in the summer?

“I don’t mind not wearing skates today.” Great atmosphere. It’s cool to see other sports and to attend the Summer Games,” the correspondent reported, citing Knierim’s remarks.
