Jean’s opponent came back from 0:3 down and gained an advantage due to his last active move
Ukrainian Jean Beleniuk suffered a defeat in the semi-finals of the Olympic tournament Paris 2024 By Greco-Roman wrestling in the category up to 87 kilograms.
Iranian Alireza Mohammadi Piani was losing to the Ukrainian 0:3 after the first period, but managed to respond in kind in the second period. Thus, Beleniuk’s opponent gained an advantage as the wrestler who performed an active action last. Throughout the rest of the time, Zhan was active, trying to attack, but Alireza skillfully eluded his grips and was still able to snatch victory.
Let us recall that earlier in the tournament the Ukrainian athlete was stronger than the Chinese Qian Haitao (7:1) and the Kazakh Nursultan Tursinov (7:3).
Tomorrow, August 8, Beleniuk will fight for bronze. Zhan has already won two Olympic medals in his career: silver in Rio 2016 (up to 85 kg) and gold in Tokyo 2020 (up to 87). Now he can collect the full set if he wins bronze in Paris.
Another Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestler, Parviz Nasibov, managed to reach the final in the 67 kg category today – he defeated Azerbaijani Hasrat Jafarov also due to his last active move.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will end on August 11. The competitions will feature 329 sets of awards in 32 sports. Ukraine is represented in Paris by 140 athletes in 23 sports – this is the smallest representation of the blue and yellow during the Olympics.
