Athletistic / Combat. Russian two-time Olympic champion Mavlet Batirov has become a member of the UWW (United World Wrestling) Hall of Fame, the press service of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) reported.
Batirov’s induction ceremony into the UWW Hall of Fame took place on August 5 at the Maison de la Lutte in Paris. The Russian athlete won gold medals at the Olympic freestyle wrestling tournament at the 2004 Games in Athens, Greece, and the 2008 Games in Beijing, China.
Mavlet Batirov became the 24th Russian in the UWW Hall of Fame. Before him, the following representatives of our country were already present: Alexander Karelin, Mikhail Mamiashvili, Ivan Yarygin, Buvaisar Saitiev, Nikolay Balboshin, Zagalav Abdulbekov, Leri Khabelov, Ali Aliev, Soslan Andiev, Anatoly Kolesov, Anatoly Beloglazov, Roman Dmitriev, Alexander Ivanitsky, Vladimir Yumin, Mnatsakan Iskandaryan, Gogi Koguashvili, Sergey Kornilaev, Gennady Sapunov, Viktor Kuznetsov, Pavel Pinigin, Valery Rezantsev, Yuri Shakhmuradov and Besik Kudukhov.
- See it for yourself. Russia has announced a boycott of the Paris Olympics.
It is worth noting that no Russian wrestler participated in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (France). The reason for this was the politicized stance of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) towards Russian athletes.
