Figure skater Zhou – after receiving team medals: “I fight for a clean sport”

American figure skater Vincent Zhou called for a fight for clean sport after doping scandals and problems with the awarding of medals in team tournaments at the 2022 Olympics.

The Russian team won the team tournament, but after Kamila Valieva was disqualified for an anti-doping rule violation, the results of the competition were revised. The International Skating Union (ISU), after canceling Valieva’s results, placed the American team in first place, the Japanese team in second place, and the Russian team was supposed to receive bronze. Team Canada, which finished fourth, also won third place by appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the ISU decision. CAS rejected the Canadian side’s appeal, the Russians retained the bronze medal.

On Wednesday, American and Japanese figure skaters received gold and silver medals at the Parc des Champions in Paris; the Russians did not participate in the awards ceremony.

— There was a big doping scandal in Sochi. But the latest scandal should remind everyone that these stories continue. Not everyone sees this. The fight for clean sport is not over. And the fact that they received medals is a step in the right direction.

— In Russia, you are considered to have the most radical position on medals.

— I’m not really what they write on social media. “I fight for clean sport, just like my team,” a correspondent reported, citing Zhou’s remarks.
