Discus throw world record holder Alekna failed to win gold at Paris Olympics

Jamaican athlete Roger Stona has become the Olympic discus throw champion at the 2024 Games in Paris.

Ston won with an Olympic record; in his best attempt, he threw the discus exactly 70 meters.

World record holder (74.35 m) Mykolas Alekna won silver with a result of 69.97 m. Alekna is a European champion, silver and bronze medalist at the world championships. He is the son of two-time Olympic discus champion Virgilijus Alekn. Australian Matthew Denny won the bronze medal (69.31).

In the women’s pole vault, the gold medal was won by Australia’s Nina Kennedy with a season-best clearance of 4.90m. The silver medal went to the American Katy Moon (4.85m), the bronze medal to Canada’s Alisha Newman, who set a national record (4.85m).

The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
