Japanese figure skater Komatsubara: “We can finally go home with a medal”

Japanese figure skater Misato Komatsubara who competed in ice dancing with Tim Coleto, said she was pleased with the medal ceremony for the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.

The ceremony with the participation of the American and Japanese teams took place on Wednesday at the Parc des Champions in Paris. The Russian team won the team tournament of the Games, but after the disqualification of Kamila Valieva for an anti-doping rule violation, the results of the competition were revised. The International Skating Union (ISU) placed the American team in first place, the Japanese team in second place, and the Russian team was supposed to receive bronze; it did not participate in the awards by decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

“I tried not to think about it (the CAS decision on the medal), I just focus on what I can change. It was sometimes difficult to explain when there would be a medal, to tell my friends, because we didn’t know anything. Now we can finally go home with a medal,” the correspondent reported, citing Komatsubara’s words.

The Japanese team at the 2022 Olympics team tournament was represented by Komatsubara, Koleto, Kaori Sakamoto, Shoma Uno, Yuma Kagiyama, Wakaba Higuchi, Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara.
