The 25-year-old athlete set a new Olympic record by throwing the discus over a distance of 70 meters. Previously, the record belonged to Lithuanian Virgilius Alakne with a result of 69.89 meters. The silver medal went to Virgilijus’ son Mykolas Alakne, who threw the discus 69.97 meters and is the world record holder with a score of 74.35 meters. Australian Matthew Denny won the bronze medal with a score of 69.31 meters.
