Athletistic / Olympic Games. Australian swimmer Moishe Johnson has shared details of her preparation for the Seine swim at the open water swimming competition, confirming rumours that athletes are trying to protect themselves after swimming in a polluted river.
“The myth about Coca-Cola is true. After a swim we often drink it, just to try to flush out what’s inside us,” Johnson was quoted as saying by The Independent.
Earlier, it was reported that Belgian triathlete Claire Michel was hospitalized with E. coli after swimming in the Seine during the 2024 Olympics. Her health is now no longer in danger.
- See it for yourself. Russia has announced a boycott of the Paris Olympics.
Swimming in the Seine has been officially banned since 1923. Garbage and toxic waste have been dumped into the river for over a hundred years, and sewage effluent has also been diverted. Before the 2024 Olympics, French authorities announced that they would carry out €1.5 billion in river sanitation work, but this has not had the desired effect.
