Ukrainian Alina Grushina-Akobia failed to reach the semi-finals Olympics 2024 By freestyle wrestling in the weight category up to 57 kg.
At the start of the competition, Alina triumphed in a strong-willed style over the fourth seeded Angelina Lysak, a former Ukrainian who has represented Poland since 2020. During the match, Grushina-Jakobiya was losing 5:13, but a number of successful actions led to an emotional victory (16:13).
But in the quarterfinals, Alina faced the winner of the 2016 Olympics in Rio and the winner of the silver medal in Tokyo 2020, American Helen Maroulis. The fifth seed of the games in Paris managed to defeat the Ukrainian with a score of 7:4.
Grushina-Yakobia still has a chance to play in the repechage matches. To do this, she needs Maroulis to reach the final, and her opponent in the semi-finals will be three-time world champion Tsugumi Skurai from Japan.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will end on August 11. The competitions will feature 329 sets of awards in 32 sports. Ukraine is represented in Paris by 140 athletes in 23 sports – this is the smallest representation of the blue and yellow during the Olympics.
