The reigning world shot put champion broke down in tears after failing to qualify for the Paris Olympics.

Two-time world shot put champion Chase Jackson of the United States finished 17th in qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics and failed to reach the final of the competition.

Jackson’s first two attempts were not counted; in the third, the 30-year-old American showed a result of 17.60 meters. After qualifying, the athlete began to cry. She won the last two world championships.

The qualifying standard for the Paris Games was 19.15 metres, which only three athletes were able to achieve. The best was Canadian Sarah Mitton (19.77).

The 12 athletes with the best results will compete in the final of the competition. Medals in this discipline will be awarded on August 9.

The Olympic Games will end on August 11.
