IOC to award bronze medals to Russian figure skaters at 2022 Olympics at ‘appropriate time’

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) respects the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on the redistribution of medals from the team tournament at the Beijing Olympic Games and will award bronze medals to Russian figure skaters in due course, the IOC press service told .

Earlier, the International Skating Union (ISU) redistributed the tournament’s medals after Russia’s Kamila Valieva was disqualified for an anti-doping rule violation. The ISU annulled Valieva’s results and moved the Russian team from first to third place. The U.S. team took first place and Japan took second. Team Canada, which placed fourth, also claimed third place by appealing the ISU decision to CAS. Last week, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced that the arbitrators had rejected the Canadian side’s appeal and awarded the Russian skaters the bronze medal.

— When will the bronze medals of the 2022 Olympic Games be awarded to Russian figure skaters?

“The IOC respects the CAS decision and will award the bronze medals at the appropriate time,” the IOC press office said in response to a query from .

The award ceremony took place in Paris on Wednesday without the participation of the Russians; the Americans received gold and the Japanese silver.
