Athletistic / Olympic Games. Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev said that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has the opportunity to deprive the United States of the right to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. This may happen due to government intervention in the process of punishing foreign athletes.
“The state has intervened in the process of punishing foreign athletes. It is simply obvious, everything has already blossomed. According to WADA standards, the American agency should be banned, and the Olympics should be moved to another country. Now the FBI has intervened directly in anti-doping cases, opening criminal cases and launching an investigation against Chinese athletes. Here, WADA does not need “Rodchenkov’s actions”, the score is on the scoreboard, so we’ll see what happens,” TASS quotes Degtyarev as saying.
- See it for yourself. Russia has announced a boycott of the Paris Olympics.
On July 17, WADA President Emeritus and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Richard Pound said that USADA could lose its WADA-compliant status due to the passage of the “Rodchenkov Act” in 2020. U.S. authorities are now using it to investigate positive doping tests on 23 Chinese swimmers.
USADA’s compliance status with the World Anti-Doping Code will be reviewed in August 2024. To do so, WADA will turn to the independent Compliance Tribunal for the first time.
