Javelin thrower Nadeem wins Pakistan’s first ever Olympic gold medal in individual sports

Pakistani Arshad Nadeem won gold at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the javelin throw.

Nadim’s best attempt was 92.97 meters. The athlete surpassed the Olympic record of Norwegian Andreas Thorkildsen (90.57), set since the 2008 Games in Beijing. Second place went to Indian Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra (89.45), third place went to Anderson Peters (88.54) from Grenada.

Nadeem, 27, brought Pakistan the first Olympic gold medal in individual sports in the country’s history. Previously, the Pakistanis won three times in field hockey and also won bronze in boxing and wrestling.

In the women’s long jump competition, American Tara Davis-Woodhall won gold with a score of 7.10m, German Malaika Mihambo (6.98) took silver and American Jasmine Moore (6.96) took bronze.

American Grant Holloway won the 110m hurdles in 12.99 seconds, followed by compatriot Daniel Roberts (13.085) and Jamaica’s Rashid Broadbell (13.088).

The Olympic Games in the French capital will end on August 11.
