Alina Lysenko, who won the individual sprint at the Russian track cycling championship, told that to be competitive at the world level and show a time worthy of the Olympic Games, one must participate in international tournaments.
The Russian Track Cycling Championships will be held in St. Petersburg from August 5 to 11. In the women’s race, Lysenko took first place, Yana Burlakova took second place and Daria Shmeleva took third.
— How did you prepare for the tournament and what was your mood at the beginning?
— In the current conditions, the Russian Championship is the main start of the season. My preparation was a little shifted, so there was some excitement. I had to recover upon arrival in St. Petersburg.
— You managed to win the individual sprint. How would you evaluate the result?
– I am happy! During the tournament days I accumulated too many emotions. There were four of us in the team sprint, the competition took place over two days, for me it lasted too long. I am happy that I won and survived everything. I do not devalue my medals from the previous Russian championships, but this one became too difficult from an emotional point of view.
— Do you follow the Olympics? Perhaps you compare your results with those posted by Parisian athletes?
— I watch the broadcasts. The athletes at the Games are showing good seconds, but I won’t say that it surprises me. They were preparing for the tournament and everyone understood that records would appear and these seconds we unfortunately could not show yet.
— What is the reason for such a gap?
— We do not travel at the international level. There, people race against each other year after year, they see this level and we compete with each other. From time to time, each of us finds himself in a dead end, and then gets out of it. This year we went to an international tournament once, saw and felt the atmosphere. Olympic results are still beyond our reach, “Lysenko told .
The Olympic Games will end on August 11, with the Russians competing in the French capital in neutral status. In the men’s team sprint, the Dutch team won, setting a world record (40.949 seconds), while the British team won the women’s team sprint with a world record (45.186). In the men’s individual sprint, Dutchman Harry Lavreijsen also set a world record (9.088).
