Ethiopia’s Tola wins marathon at 2024 Games in Olympic record

Representative of the Ethiopian national team Tamirat Tola won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics by winning the marathon.

He covered a distance of 42 km (195 metres) in an Olympic record of 2 hours 6 minutes and 6 seconds. The previous feat belonged to Kenyan Samuel Wanjiru (2 hours 6 minutes and 32 seconds) and was set at the 2008 Games.

Took second place in the marathon at the 2024 Olympics Bashir Abdi from Belgium, who lost 21 seconds to the leader. The Kenyan came third Benson Kipruto (lag – 34 seconds).

Two-time Olympic marathon champion and former world record holder Eliud Kipchoge, 39, abandoned the race after completing 30km.

The Olympic Games in the French capital will end on August 11.
