Khavronina and Narizhny teamed up last winter and are training in the group of Samokhin and Maria Borovikova. In their first season, the skaters became winners of two stages of the Russian Grand Prix, and also won bronze at the Russian Championship and the Spartakiad of the strongest.

— What can you say about the new dances of Khavronina/Narizhny?

— As for rhythmic dance, we were looking for interesting compositions according to the rules proposed by the ISU. The rules are somewhat similar to those that have been proposed to us for several years now – musicals, then the 80s, there was disco, there was still the dance party. In principle, everything is very similar.

When we chose the songs, we didn’t want to do disco, we went with funk. As the contest showed, the majority of American couples chose disco. But disco was already present that year and the year before. I don’t really understand why the ISU got more involved in this, because they don’t accept waltzes or other characteristic things. They do what they like. Next year we’ll do a 2000s disco, we’ll see.

For the free dance I chose music, it was Ezio Bosso. We show through dance how a person with an incurable disease must hurry to live. It so happens that my mother died at the end of March – from the same disease as the composer. This is such dedication to all seriously ill people with terminal illnesses. The path will always end in one way, you have to hurry and want to live. This is what they are trying to do.

This year we added composition and transitions. We tried to incorporate into this program the maximum of what they can now: complex transitions, composition changes, some interesting elements. Plus to keep the speed. Maybe everything doesn’t work yet, but we can cope with it. We pay attention to musicality in the performance of programs, for some reason we are at a disadvantage in our dances in Russia – people do not pay much attention to the musical interpretation of accents.
