President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach thanked the double Olympic pole vault champion Elena Isinbayeva for his work on the IOC Athletes’ Commission.
In July, it was announced that the Russian would be leaving the commission, where she was elected in 2016, after the Games in the French capital. In addition to Isinbayeva, the outgoing members include Daniel Gyurt (swimming, Hungary), Britta Heidemann (fencing, Germany) and Yoo Seung-min (table tennis, South Korea).
— We thank Elena Isinbaeva for all her work in the Athletes’ Commission, as well as other commissions and working groups.
Elena, Daniel, Britt, Yoo Seung Min, over the past six years you have made a great contribution to the work of the Commission. During your term, you have been instrumental in increasing athlete engagement and your contributions have been essential to supporting athletes. “Thank you for your work,” Bach said at a press conference at the 142nd IOC Session in Paris.
Isinbayeva is a two-time Olympic pole vault champion, a 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, a multiple world champion and the holder of 28 world records.
The Paris Olympics will end on August 11.
