New Zealander Kerr won gold in a fight with American McEwen, while Tokyo 2021 champion Barshim from Qatar won bronze
Ukrainian track and field athlete Oleg Doroshchuk failed to compete for medals in the high jump Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.
The fatal barrier for Oleg was the 2.34-meter bar. Considering the number of attempts spent on the previous jumps, Doroshchuk took sixth place in the final standings. The height of 2.31 taken is a new personal record in the career of the Ukrainian athlete.
The battle for gold unfolded between the New Zealander Hamish Kerr and American Shelby McEwen. They both jumped 2.36 on their first attempt, but neither of them managed to clear 2.38 even after four attempts. In the end, the athletes dropped to 2.34 – and there Kerr jumped more successfully than his opponent. This gold was the first in the history of New Zealand in the men’s high jump.
Mutaz Essa Barshim won the bronze medal. The Qatari has won awards in this discipline at four Games in a row. He won silver in London 2012 and Rio 2016, and took the long-awaited gold in Tokyo 2021.
Let us recall that Doroshchuk was the only one of the three Ukrainians who made it to the 2024 Olympic Games final in high jump (with the 11th result). Vladislav Lavsky and Andriy Protsenko failed to pass the qualification.
