American and New Zealander refuse to share high jump gold at Paris 2024 Olympics

American athlete Shelby McEwan and New Zealander Hamish Kerr have refused to share the high jump gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Both athletes achieved the same result of 2.36 meters with the same number of attempts. Kerr and McEwan could have become the winners of the tournament together, but both athletes decided to continue fighting. In additional attempts, the American failed to overcome the height of 2.34 meters.

Thus, Kerr became the 2024 Olympic champion, McEwan won the silver medal. The bronze medalist is Qatari Mutaz Essa Barshim (2.34).

In the high jump at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Italians Gianmarco Tamberi and Barshim posted the same result (2.37 meters). Then the athletes agreed to share the gold.

The Paris Summer Olympics will end on August 11.
