The Ukrainian lost the final fight to Japanese Sakura Motoki yesterday
Ukrainian Irina Kolyadenko commented on the outcome of the final fight Olympic Games 2024 By freestyle wrestling in the weight category up to 62 kg against Japanese Sakura Motoki.
“If they had asked me before the Olympics, they would have told me that I would have silver, I would have reacted completely differently. And now I am upset, really upset that I have silver, because my potential, I felt that I could win gold with such a team, with such a coach. So I was upset.”
“A knee brace on my leg? It’s the same leg I had at the last Olympics. Only at the last Olympics I was fighting with a cruciate ligament. I had surgery right when I arrived. And now I had surgery two months before the Olympics. I won the European Championship, some time has passed, I need to have surgery again and prepare for here as I am.”
Kolyadenko won the first silver medal in women’s wrestling for Ukraine in the history of its performance at the Olympics. This is also the second Olympic award for Iryna herself. In Tokyo 2020, the Ukrainian won bronze.
Let us recall that in the 1/8 finals of the 2024 Games in Paris, Kolyadenko defeated Mongolian representative Orkhon Purevdorj (8:7). Then in the quarterfinals, Irina defeated Biliana Dudova from Bulgaria (7:3), and made it to the final thanks to a confident victory over Aisulu Tynybekova from Kyrgyzstan (9:2), at the same time taking revenge on her for the defeat in the semifinals at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will end today, August 11. The competition will feature 329 sets of medals in 32 sports.
