Russian diving champion Grigory Ivanov explained to why he chose a dinosaur costume for the presentation to the participants at the start of the Kremlin Cup competition.
Ivanov was eliminated in the fourth round of the three-meter springboard competition of the Kremlin Cup.
— The weather was bad today. Yesterday was better. The boys on the tower and the girls on the ski jump were lucky. Today, the strong wind made it difficult to jump. This is not the most important competition, we can have fun. It’s normal that someone fell, that someone didn’t achieve their goals.
— You spent a lot of time preparing for the last jump, what stopped you?
— The wind was bothering me, I wanted it to pass, but I understood that there was no point in waiting. I didn’t want to raise my hand.
— Why did you decide to show the athletes in dinosaur costumes?
— I told my girlfriend I wanted a dinosaur costume. She gave it to me the next day, that’s why it happened. “I decided to have fun,” Ivanov told .
The Moscow tournament was organized by the Russian Diving Federation together with the Moscow Diving Sports Federation and channel.
Competitions were held between men and women according to a special program: from a 3-meter springboard, from a 10-meter platform, as well as in team competitions. The tournament was held according to a new format: in each round, the points are updated and the athlete with the lowest score is eliminated.
