Gornyy coach calls defeat a ‘good lesson’ from which much can be learned
Head coach Shakhtar Marino Pusic commented on his team’s sensational defeat to Polesia (0:1) in the 2nd round Ukrainian Premier League.
“The game can be divided into two parts. In the first half, we were not aggressive enough on the ball, we showed a lack of desire to win in confrontations and without the ball in general, so we lost the first half. As for the second half, I have no complaints about the team. There were several counterattacks, which, fortunately for us, did not end in anything serious. We created a lot of chances in the second half, but we did not manage to score. However, I am completely satisfied with how my team responded to the unsuccessful first half. This is a lesson for us, from which we can learn a lot to continue working and improving every day.”
“This is football and anything can happen. In the second half we had some great moments and could have scored two or three times, but the goalkeeper was great, but I think we lacked a little composure in the final phase. We are working on this and I am sure we will be able to improve it. And as I have already emphasized, this is a good lesson for us, from which we can learn a lot. We will come back stronger every time.”
“Alexander [Зубков] got injured in the previous game in the first round of the UPL. We expect him to return in about two to three weeks. He is currently working on his recovery, and we hope that he will join the team soon. The good news is that Kryskiv is likely to return next week and join the training process. We really have a very wide roster, each player has personal qualities that can strengthen our team, so I am sure that we will be able to integrate each of them in a way that will benefit the club.”
Let us recall that in a conditionally home match (the meeting took place at the capital’s stadium “Left Bank”) the Miners failed the first half, which Polesie managed to win thanks to a goal by Sergei Chobotenko.
In the second half, the game was interrupted due to an air raid alarm. After the match resumed, Shakhtar had the advantage, but was unable to equalize the score. If the hosts had not shot on target even once before the break, then in the second half, goalkeeper Yevhen Volynets worked hard – and ultimately managed to keep his goal intact.
Shakhtar have three points after the first two matches of the Ukrainian championship. In the next round of the Ukrainian Premier League, Pushic’s team will play against Left Bank on August 18.
