The President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) Elena Vyalbe spoke about the decision of the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach to refuse to run for the new elections for the head of world sports. According to Vyalbe, she still does not expect any positive changes in the Olympic movement.
“Well, Bach decided not to run – and he did. Practice shows that each subsequent IOC president is worse than the previous one,” Vyalbe was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti Sport.
In October 2023, at the 141st IOC Session in Mumbai, India, several members of the organization took the initiative to amend the Olympic Charter in order to re-elect Bach for a third presidential term. However, the 70-year-old German decided to abandon this idea.
The election of the next IOC President will take place in March 2025 during the organization’s session in Greece. It should be noted that Thomas Bach has led the IOC since autumn 2013.
