Rower Korovashkov: “At the Olympics, we were forbidden to say the word ‘Russia'”

Olympic silver medalist canoeist Alexei Korovachkov told that Russian athletes were strongly advised not to mention their country’s name at the Paris Olympics.

Korovashkov and Zakhar Petrov took fourth place in the 500-meter canoe double final at the Paris Games. The Russian athletes competed in the French capital in neutral status (AIN).

— How did your communication with foreign athletes at the Olympic Games go? Was there anything negative?

– Everything was great! The Russians were supported. But some foreigners did not understand what kind of uniform we had with the inscription AIN. They asked: are you by any chance from the United Arab Emirates? But we could not say that we were from Russia.

— So you were forbidden to say the name of the country?

“Yes, they strongly asked not to mention our country,” Korovashkov told .
